Night Cries is an amazing, beautifully shot film that combines great action sequences with a thought provoking story-line. The journey and struggle of our hero Joseph Morgan in a dark and gritty world allows the story to flow easily while still maintaining the mystery of what happens next.
Night Cries had all the really good scary things from old tv horror movies in it. Basically, it's about a woman who was told her baby died in childbirth, but she swears she can hear it crying every night. Something is telling her, this baby is alive. So she does everything she can to track it down and everyone keeps telling her she's crazy. But ...
Night Cries: A Rural Tragedy is the story of a white woman and her adopted Aboriginal daughter, told with vibrantly coloured landscapes and a richly constructed soundscape. The film is in part a response by visual artist Tracey Moffatt to Charles Chauvel's celebrated feature film, Jedda (1955).
Despite the negatives Night Cries was worth the viewing because it presented a different take on the afterlife in a context that is more interesting than I expected. The foundation of the story, however lacking in some areas, has enough to build upon in tackling questions of faith, religion, death and the hereafter.
Batman Night Cries won't likely be recommended to you as "required" Batman reading by friends or those who frequent the comic shops. It introduces no new reoccurring characters, it doesn't kill off any major characters, it doesn't involve any of Batman's many villains, and it deals in subject matter that most would find uncomfortable.
